Over tea and donoughts
I’ve had the most remarkable afternoon in school today. It was the first time I told my friends Mhom and R about “Subabe.” Life is rather strange. For a few years now V and I have yearned for this baby and when it finally comes around, we don’t quite know how to go about letting our closest friends know our ‘good news’. I probably would not have told them today but R asked me pointedly, ‘Are you or are you not?’ Of course, between the three of us we know what the question was ‘really’ about. But, it gave me an opportunity to make my big announcement. When I told them that I was indeed expecting R rolled her eyes and said I shouldn’t kid about matters such as this and Mhom did not know quite what to make of it. But, it eventually sunk in and… Well, we then had a little hug, a cry and a chat, celebrating the news over a cup of tea and donoughts. All in all, I think it was the one cheery spot for me on a bleak drizzly winter day, bang in the middle of the first week of spring.
